The main bulk of financial donations goes towards the computers themselves. Back in 2016, in the first iteration of David’s Digital Donations, I had the same plan as I do now: laptops. However, previously I had accepted donations of computer towers. These proved to be a real hassle, and laptops were decided to be the most efficient means of donations. They are much easier to set up, and are much more useful for students, and people on the go. Therefore, most of the donation money will go towards purchasing laptops for our recipients.
For all of the laptop donations we acquire, formatting is required as we have to wipe the computer of all data stored on it. To legally install Windows on it, operating systems need to be purchased for each donated device in order to make them usable. This requires some of the funds to be directed towards those operating system purchases.
